Carlsbad, California, USA (August 17, 2011) – Kids for Peace announced today that this year's Great Kindness Challenge, the 4th annual celebration, reached as many as 69 countries, based on website data and firsthand accounts.
The Great Kindness Challenge (www.greatkindnesschallenge.org) is an annual event where kids around the world perform acts of kindness, choosing from a downloadable checklist of 50 suggestions.
On Saturday, children around the world gave smiles, hugs and heart-shaped cards. They gathered in groups to clean up streets, parks and beaches and to tend community gardens. They made and sold cookies, brownies and lemonade to raise money for various causes, from local animal shelters to global nonprofits. They delivered treats and thank you messages to public servants, from firefighters to librarians to elected officials. They did kind deeds for seniors, military families, the homeless, the hospitalized, for family members, friends and strangers.
The Great Kindness Challenge is sponsored by generationOn and Southwest Airlines, with public relations support from CRT/tanaka and web design services donated by Envisager Studio.
Always held on the second Saturday in August, the next Challenge will be celebrated on August 11, 2012.
